SNEWS® Live: There was a lot more than just fun and adventure during the 2007 Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colo. The active lifestyle festival also featured the charitable work of organizations that blend their passion for the outdoors with philanthropy. SNEWS® Live had the pleasure of meeting Shannon Galpin. As the founder and executive director of Mountain to Mountain, she raises money and awareness to improve the living conditions of people in high-altitude communities around the world.
Much of Galpin’s outreach is directed toward the villages of central Asia that are impacted by both war and poverty. She said she hopes to rally the enthusiasm of athletes and adventurers in the mountain towns of the United States to muster support for the creation of schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as spread peace.
