SNEWS® Live: Running shoe company Saucony is doing its part to help curb a national epidemic. Across the United States, children as young as 6 years old are suffering from the ill effects of obesity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in the annual “National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey” that one-third of U.S. children are overweight or are at risk of becoming so. That’s 25 million kids.
Since 2006, the Run For Good Foundation has given more than $300,000 in grants to organizations that provide kids with the guidance and resources they need to start running for exercise. On the first day of Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Saucony’s Run For Good Foundation presented grants to two recipients. Outdoor Industry Foundation and the Boy & Girls Clubs of Weber-Davis counties in Utah received $10,000 and $7,500, respectively.
