The border adjustment tax could penalize manufacturers that import goods to the U.S.

None

The Outdoor Industry Association is hosting a free webinar Tuesday to inform retailers and manufacturers about the border adjustment tax, a bill that could substantially increase costs for businesses that import goods to the U.S.

The bill threatens to penalize companies that import goods rather than manufacture domestically, by dropping the corporate tax rate but prohibiting companies from writing off their import costs. That could cause the cost of business to rise significantly, which would result in higher prices for consumers and retailers.

The one-hour webinar will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Mountain Time / 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Speakers include: Rich Harper, OIA’s manager of international trade; Rachelle Bernstein of the National Retail Federation; and Ron Sorini and John Kingery of Sorini Samet and Associates.

The talk will cover how the border adjustment tax could affect you and where it fits in with broader tax reform, where President Donald Trump stands on the issue, and how you can get involved.
