Immersion in social media and technology is taking a toll on us and the Pantone Color Institute believes that a vibrant yet mellow color will bring us all a little more joy.
The world’s self-proclaimed color gurus have declared Living Coral the color of the year for 2019. Its “animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone” emits aspects of color found in nature and embodies our desire for playful expression. Cue ocean sunset or a sea saltwater fish.
“Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral,” Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman said in a statement. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”
The color isn’t just selected at random. Pantone bases the choice on seasonal trend forecasts, color psychology, and color consulting, which means we’ll likely see more outdoor brands incorporating it into their design strategies.
Ultra Violet was 2018’s color of the year.
