The America’s National Parks Podcast tells the story of our nation through the parks that protect our history and treasures—from Denali, the tallest mountain peak, to Death Valley’s Badwater Basin, 282 feet below sea level. Nearly 90 million acres of land and the 20,000 rangers and 246,000 volunteers that protect it all at over 400 individual National Park Service units. We travel the country full-time in a converted school bus seeking out the unknown backstories, the special moments, and the surprising history of these special places.
A great episode to get a feel for what we do is “37 Days in Yellowstone,” in which we dramatize Truman Everts’ survival story from 1870. He lost not one, but two horses. He set not one, but two forest fires. He waited out a mountain lion in a tree. He slept in a bear’s den. He fell through the crust of a hot spring and burnt his hip. He keeled over into his campfire while hallucinating. All in all, he spent 37 days battling against insurmountable odds, and he lived to tell the tale.
