Mark Godley has been selected by Big City Mountaineers (BCM) as the organization’s executive director. BCM, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, provides urban teenage youth in need of positive adult mentoring with a challenging and safe wilderness experience led by qualified adult volunteer guides.

Prior to being named the group’s director, Godley spent years working with the non-profit in a variety of capacities: leading trips, working with corporate sponsors and engaging youth groups. In addition to working with BCM, he has worked extensively with other non-profits in board and advisory capacities, including Habitat for Humanity and Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schools.

“Joining Big City Mountaineers fulfills a long-term interest in marrying my strong business background with my avid interests in youth and the outdoors. It is an honor to lead an organization with such a worthy cause that is supported by so many committed volunteers within the outdoor gear industry,” Godley said of his new position.

“BCM has ambitious plans to not only grow our program, but invest a large amount of effort into improving the already outstanding wilderness experience for our trip participants. We are launching initiatives that will deepen the current relationships with our youth organizations, increase the opportunity for volunteer participation, further enrich the trail experience for all participants, provide more comprehensive guidance for our leaders, and add more value for our sponsors,” he added.
