Like many of our testers, the person we gave these sandals to is an outdoor enthusiast, as well as an avid small mountain stream fly fisherman. After several outings in the late spring and early summer, he told us that the Bite sandals were in his mind the answer to a backpacking fisherman’s dream.

“For years I tested old running shoes, hiking sandals, almost every type of lightweight footwear for wading high mountain streams and lakes. The problem I always encountered with that footwear was slipping on the rocks and lack of much needed toe protection.”

The Bite Troutstream fishing sandal solves the slipping with large felt pads embedded in the sandal’s sole across most of the forefoot and heel areas. Plus, bashing into rocks and smashing toes and toenails is eliminated with Bite’s raised, rigid toe bumper. An EVA midsole cushions the impact and possible results that could occur from stepping on unseen sharp rocks. The use of sticky rubber in the footbed kept the sandals from slipping on sockless feet.

“The sandal is easy to slip into and hugs the foot with a supportive strap system that is easily adjusted with one quick pull and a lock on the elastic lacing. For really cold streams, I also wear a pair of neoprene socks. For warmer waters, no socks are necessary.”

As an added bonus, the SNEWS tester said he also used the sandal around camp on several backcountry trips.

SNEWS Rating: 4 hands clapping (1 to 5 hands clapping possible, with 5 clapping hands representing functional and design perfection.
