We were jaded at best when we were told these Briko Lucifer Kit sunglasses were anti-fog. HA! Heard that before. So we rose to the challenge — we WILL fog these babies.

Weee-eeeell… just over two months and several hundred running, hiking, skiing and snowshoeing miles later, we haven’t been able to do it. In temperatures from about 20 to 70 degrees, snow or hail, pounding rain or foggy drizzles, partly overcast to full sun, hard intervals to lazy tours, sweat-busting climbs to wildflower tours, we have failed in our mission to fog ‘em.

Hallelujah!

The Lucifer Kit sunglasses get our stamp of anti-fog approval. These by the way are the ones with the so-called “Thrama Active Plus Antifog” lenses. The company makes other lens types and colors that are anti-fog; we didn’t test them, but we would bet they’ll perform just like these. Briko also makes a range of glasses without anti-fog lenses.

Other accessories — a brow pad for better comfort, a replaceable brow sponge for sweat hogs (can be replaced, good thing too), and a wide elastic band that clips on to the frames in a very unobtrusive way to make sure you don’t lose them. The nose piece sat very comfortably, too.

For one tester, the temple ends seemed a bit snug, but not so snug as to cause headaches, just more frequent re-adjusting than may be desirable. But that may not hold true for all wearers.

One characteristic that may be a drawback for some: These are not unobtrusive sunglasses. In fact, for regular sunglasses, they are a bit “goggle-y” looking, very techy and, a few could say, slightly geeky.

If they perform, some will say, who cares (we side with that attitude), while others may say, well, no thanks, and opt instead for some cute little sunglass thangs — the ones that don’t do much good. Your choice. We’ve made ours.

Rating: 4.5 hands clapping (1 to 5 hands possible, with 5 hands representing functional and design nirvana)

Suggested retail — $109 (Non-anti-fog Lucifers: $99)
