Did you hear?…Black Diamond Equipment night shift robbed by man looking for diamonds

Around 3 a.m. on June 13, during the third shift at the Black Diamond Equipment manufacturing plant in Salt Lake City, a man entered a door apparently left unlocked by a third-party vendor who had just filled a gas tank for the laser cutter.

When confronted by the night shift manager, the man apparently demanded to be given “the diamonds and money,” Black Diamond CFO Robert Peay told SNEWS®.

After being informed there were no diamonds to be had, the intruder demanded anything of value. He left with a number of company computers, used only by the factory floor to check orders and containing no information of any value, we were told, and a number of unfinished ice screws.

Noting that Black Diamond’s business was sometimes confused with another company with diamond in the name that rents equipment, Peay said this was the first time they had been confused with a jewelry business specializing in diamonds. Grateful that no one was hurt in the incident, Peay said the company would certainly be revisiting its nighttime security policies and talking to all third-party vendors serving the manufacturing facility.
