Whether or not the Mid-Atlantic EORA show will return next fall to Lake Placid, New York, will be the subject of discussion when the EORA board of directors meets during the first week of November. The other 2002 autumn shows — Manchester, New Hampshire; and Greenville, South Carolina — have already been scheduled.

Show attendance at the three 2001 shows was flat or slightly down, according to EORA’s Jason Zonborn. Part of that was timing: The Manchester show was Sept. 9-12 and the attacks of Sept. 11 took their toll on attendance. In addition, the Lake Placid and Manchester shows were at new locations, something he says seems to make retailers and exhibitors less ready to jump. Despite the new locations, both shows went well, Zonborn said.

  • Lake Placid — Attendance by New York retailers at the Lake Placid Sept. 5-7 show was up 12 percent. There were more attendees on the show’s first day than during last year’s entire show. With Sept. 4-6, 2002, available for next year, Zonborn said the board may choose to go back on those days.
  • Greenville — Flat attendance may have been due to scheduling conflicts with other shows, including OR Summer Market and the footwear and apparel show in Atlanta. Next year’s Greenville show is scheduled for Aug. 17-20.
  • Manchester — The events of Sept. 11 caused a couple of exhibitors to pull out and some retailers to head home early. Next year’s show will again be Sept. 9-12.
