The American Alpine Club (AAC) recently awarded $21,500 in Lyman Spitzer and Helly Hansen grants to expeditions destined for Greenland, Mongolia, the Himalayas, Baffin Island, and Alaska. Twenty-seven climbers and explorers applied to the AAC for support. These grants are drawn from an endowment made possible by support from AAC members, including a generous bequest from Lyman Spitzer, and the support of corporate partner Helly Hansen. According to program manager Chris Chesak, only expeditions that “really further the climbing community’s collective knowledge base and skill-set” are considered for the grants.
