Did you hear?… APA Survey says employees want paychecks to go online and go green

According to the 2008 "Getting Paid in America" survey of American workers, conducted by the American Payroll Association (APA), 31 percent of all employees would rather do away with paper versions of paychecks and instead be able to view their payroll information online, while another 31 percent say their company already does this and they like it.

How many outdoor and fitness industry companies currently provide electronic viewing of pay stubs, rather than providing a printed check or paper receipt of weekly, bi-weekly or monthly pay? If your company does not, consider this. According to the 2008 “Getting Paid in America” survey of American workers, conducted by the American Payroll Association (APA), 31 percent of all employees would rather do away with paper versions of paychecks and instead be able to view their payroll information online, while another 31 percent say their company already does this and they like it.

Twenty-six percent responded it would not matter, and only 9 percent stated they would feel inconvenienced or unhappy with such a move. The APA endorses this as a favorable direction as it is convenient for the employer and employee, reduces employer costs, and is far more environmentally friendly (think reduced carbon footprint as well as reduction of paper use).

If your employer currently direct-deposits your pay, and still sends you a paper copy of your check with payroll information, SNEWS® would suggest you bring up going 100-percent electronic. It’s good for business and good for the environment — small steps to be sure, but every cost-savings and green step is an important one.
