Recognizing that outdoor and fitness activities can exist in harmony. Bass Pro Shops is hosting the second Outdoor Fitness Festival in Springfield, Mo., and expanding it to run from Oct. 25-Nov.2, which includes two weekends. The event features fitness events, health and wellness activities, outdoor adventure and skills activities, and wildlife conservation programs.
“Our goal continues to be to create a destination event for individuals and families promoting physical activities and experiences in the great outdoors,” event co-chairman Martin MacDonald of Bass Pro Shops said in a statement. “We want this event to encourage people of all ages and lifestyles to enhance their fitness level by participating in running, walking, and various outdoor adventures,”
Last year’s event included a marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K runs, while this year there are additional 25K and 50K trail runs through Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, sponsored by The North Face. Also new this year are canoe and kayak races and a geocaching competition. The festival also includes The Outdoor Fitness & Health Fair, focusing on fitness and health with health screenings, informational and interactive booths, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
Health and wellness experts, as well as various visiting celebrities, will offer the public tips on achieving a healthy lifestyle and provide information on heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and other ailments. Healthcare professionals will conduct health screenings and other services, while vendors will share new products and innovations in the sports and fitness arena.
At the same time, there will be a Corporate Wellness Conference to provide businesses solutions for dealing with the healthcare crisis.
The festival will also offer outdoor education classes in canoeing, kayaking, geocaching, fishing, and other outdoor education tips and instruction. Plus, it’s hosting a family camping expedition where participants will be able to learn and apply new outdoor skills.
