Britain’s countryside re-opening for much of the summer season also meant a significant increase in business at outdoor retailers, with respondents to a survey by the country’s Outdoor Industries Association claiming a 59 percent upturn for the quarter. Less than a quarter of retailers reported lower sales. The outlook for the fall quarter remains positive at 37 points compared to the -7 reported in the previous quarter. “But it remains tempered by uncertainties over foot and mouth disease and the international political and economic situation following the terrorist attacks in the USA last month,” the trade group OIA said.
