North Carolina-based fabric maker Burlington Industries, Inc. (OTCBB: BRLG) has announced that it will lay off approximately 4,000 people in the United States and Mexico.

(OTCBB: BRLG) has announced that it will lay off approximately 4,000 people in the United States and Mexico as part of the company’s reorganization efforts following its November 2001 Chapter 11 filing — click here to read story. Burlington will be selling or closing five plants, including Mount Holly, N.C., Stonewall, Miss., Halifax, Va., Clarksville, Va., and Aguascalientes, Mexico. Burlington has estimated that the plant closings and restructuring at other plants will result in 2,800 jobs being lost in the U.S. and 1,200 jobs in Mexico. Burlington also announced that it would begin marketing and selling its apparel products under one banner, “Burlington Worldwide,” instead of its previous, and sometimes confusing, divisional structure.
