An interesting new city ordinance goes into effect on January 19, 2009 for all employers within San Francisco city limits, requiring companies with 20 or more employees to make mass transit part of an overall benefits package.

An interesting new city ordinance goes into effect on January 19, 2009 for all employers within San Francisco city limits, requiring companies with 20 or more employees to make mass transit part of an overall benefits package.
Companies reach compliance with the ordinance by:
- Allowing employees to pay for mass transit on a pretax basis.
- Providing employees with transportation to and from work.
- Reimbursing expenses for employee transportation to and from work using mass transit.
San Francisco becomes the first city in the United States with such an ordinance.
