All European Union countries as of Jan. 1 must abide by a guarantee on all products of two years. In Germany, the federally mandated warranty has been six months. To help pump up holiday spending, some manufacturers have advertised they will allow the two-year warranty on products sold during the Holiday season prior to the Jan. 1 mandate. Some manufacturers, SNEWS® European sources say, are a bit concerned about the two-year mandate since some products, such as hiking boots, can easily be worn or used to shreds in two years even with good care.
