Travel + Leisure magazine’s April issue honors 35 members of the travel industry who are “changing the way you travel in the 21st century,” and ExOfficio’s president, Rick Hemmerling, is one. According to Travel + Leisure, “After designing the first climate-control vented shirt, in 1987, Hemmerling moved on to create fabrics with moisture wicking and sun protection. But his latest developments — a new line that repels insects, revolutionary knit constructions such as superfine-mesh underwear, and ‘smart’ clothes with electronic filaments woven through the fabric to keep you cool — are what will really revolutionize travel wardrobes.” Hemmerling told Travel + Leisure, “We’re working on fabrics that have a life of their own.” Knowing that ExOfficio originally promoted its underwear with an ad campaign boasting one pair of underwear, multiple countries, many days, we’d say Hemmerling has already achieved the goal of “fabrics that have a life of their own.” Awwww, we’re just kidding. We love ya, Rick. And congrats. Well-deserved honor.
