In related news, Gart Sports Co. which operates stores under the Gart Sports, Sportmart and Oshman’s names, opened four Sportmart locations — two in Illinois, one in Minnesota, and one in California — and one Oshman’s Sporting Goods store — in Texas — in November. The five stores expand the Company’s retail operations to 182 stores in 25 states. Gart’s also renamed 11 stores in California and New Mexico. In California, nine former Oshman’s now operate under the Sportmart brand. In New Mexico, two former Gart Sports stores now carry the Oshman’s banner. The renaming was done to maximize consumer brand awareness in each of the markets according to Gart CEO, Doug Morton.
