Well, Jack Gilbert, co-founder and former president of Mountain Hardwear (recently retired), is back from the fourth-annual Maxi Basketball Pan American Championships in Guaruja, Brazil, with a gold medal.

Well, Jack Gilbert, co-founder and former president of Mountain Hardwear (recently retired), is back from the fourth-annual Maxi Basketball Pan American Championships in Guaruja, Brazil, with a gold medal. Apparently, retirement has not slowed the lad down any. Gilbert, as some in the industry know, played center for Stanford University in 1966. Gilbert told SNEWS® that he shared playing time with another teammate, but still managed to score five or six points. “I was in there for defense mostly,” said Gilbert. The U.S. team came from behind to beat Brazil in the final, after losing to it in the opening round. Columbia Sportswear and a Portland watering hole, East Bank Saloon, sponsored the team of seniors and Gilbert told us that before each game, the U.S. team would hand out T-shirts with the sponsors’ logos on them. “They were a real hit for the other team,” said Gilbert.Â
