Johnson Outdoors has donated 26 Eureka! tents and six Camp Trails external frame packs to the Appalachian Trail Conference (ATC) Volunteer Trail-Crew, an organization that provides over 200,000 hours of maintenance each year to the 2,169-mile footpath. The donation provides volunteers and staff with gear for camping and hauling while working on the Appalachian Trail. The gear will remain within the ATC and rotate to various trail workers who may not have their own equipment. Beginning this May, trail crews have about 24 weeks of work scheduled for 2002, and more than 4,000 volunteers ready to lend a hand. There are 31 affiliated ATC clubs along the trail, all sharing the same mission: “To ensure the environmental program and resource preservation of the A.T.” for its four million annual users, as well as for future generations.
