Through Aug. 30, Mammut is offering a backpack exchange through nearly 65 of its retailers in Europe. If a customer brings in an old pack from any company, gives it to the retailer and purchases a new Mammut one, the customer gets 20 percent off the new purchase and does good at the same time: Mammut will send all old packs turned in to Nepal for use by Sherpas there. Bernd Wodarz, national sales manager for Mammut in Germany, says the company expects to get more than 1,000 packs through the summer program that began July 1. “From the business side, clearly we are trying to wake up people to do something good,” Wodarz said. Retailers participating can be found at www.mammut.ch, and the exchange program is good for seven different Mammut packs. SNEWS® View: What a great deal for all involved. Not only will Mammut through this spark additional sales (good for its coffers), but it will also help its dealers make sales as well as make a badly needed donation to an area of the world frequented by outdoor enthusiasts, who can give back to Nepal through this.
