Menno Van Wyk, CEO of Montrail, contacted SNEWS today to let us know that Montrail is experiencing a banner 2002 with orders up 30 percent, and January, in particular, posting the highest sales and profit for the company in its history. SNEWS® View: Why you ask? Simple — we’ve done some checking and have certainly been watching the company closely in the last couple of years and it is the company’s commitment to specialty shops that resonates with shop owners and buyers. Montrail is more concerned with developing sales for shops by teaching fit and showing retailers how to match the right product to the right customer than they are with placing a certain number of SKUs on the wall. And that, dear readers, has resulted in happier customers, fewer returns for retailers, increased sales, and, certainly, an increased and very loyal retailer base willing to provide wall space for more than just a SKU or two.
