Mark your calendars for the Moving Mountains Award to be presented during a reception on Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. in the non-profit lobby of Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Dennis Madsen, CEO of REI, and Jim Whittaker, internationally recognized mountaineer/adventurer/author, will present the award. A broad coalition of non-profit membership groups created the award to honor the leading outdoor company whose philanthropic support has clearly gone above and beyond the normal levels of giving to support the outdoor recreation community. Each year, each of the participating organizations nominates what it believes is its most deserving corporate partner. The coalition then votes on those nominations to select the recipient of the Moving Mountains Award. The winner of the inaugural Moving Mountains Award was Seattle-based Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) and, last year, Patagonia earned the top honor. Nominees for this year include: Clif Bar, Rock & Ice, Subaru of America, Thorlo, Teva, Merrell, Brunton, Trango, Hyside Whitwater Inflatables, Cascade Designs, and Little Bear Snowshoes. Sponsors for the Moving Mountains Award include: KPS|3 advertising, e-marketing, and public relations; Outdoor Retailer trade show; The Printing Press; Shawn MacDonald Design; SNEWS®; and Summerwood Laser Cutting and Engraving.
