The New York Times recently recognized the treadmill group exercise classes trend in a Fashion & Style section article…finally. The March 30 article “Upgrading the Road to Nowhere” (click here to read — free registration is required) noted that nationwide treadmill classes — with running drills, sprints and power walks at various speeds and inclines — are popular in clubs like Equinox, Gold’s Gym, Life Time Fitness, Crunch and Bally Total Fitness. Our own SNEWS® editor — and founder of the SNEWS® fitness section — Therese Iknoian, was interviewed at length for this article, and though not cited, much of the information in the “A Few Steps to Get Ahead ” sidebar (click here to read) was provided by her. For readers in the know, you’ll remember Therese as the founder of the first treadmill class in 1998, Trekking by Star Trac.
