The National Geographic Society has entered into an alliance with The American Alpine Club and The Colorado Mountain Club, initially to establish a state-of-the-art museum at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Col. The museum, slated to open in the spring of 2003, will chronicle the history of mountaineering and climbing worldwide and will be the first such museum in North America outside of Washington D.C. to be affiliated with the National Geographic Society. It was also announced that the American Alpine Club will work closely on a number of related activities and endeavors, such as co-developing online features and interactive applications; sharing exhibits, including National Geographic photo displays; co-presenting the Live From National Geographic Speaker’s Series in The American Mountaineering Center’s 350-seat auditorium; and reciprocal membership discounts and privileges.
