Paul Kirwin and Kirwin Communications have launched what they believe is the first ever viral video for the outdoor market — www.brunton.com/video.php — to promote Brunton’s new Solar Port 2.2. SNEWS® was given a sneak preview to get our take, so we shared the link with a number of industry media veterans of both the male and female persuasion. Results were split evenly down the middle. The Deliverance theme made most, though not all, of our male reviewers chuckle and our Southern gentleman thought that it was funnier than a rooster wearing socks — or something to that effect. Our female viewers were not so kind, some taking offense to the way the woman was portrayed, others simply taking offense to the fact anyone would spend money producing something so stupid. We men who liked it are feeling really simple right now. Kirwin told us that the split and passionate response was exactly what was expected and they’re hopeful that, love it or hate it, the video will get passed around, and that’s exactly the goal. Bottom line (no pun intended, really) is that Brunton wanted an edgy video and they got it from the Kirwin team. Frankly, after watching it, we can’t look at an electric toothbrush in quite the same way anymore.
