Perception Kayaks today announced the recipients of its 2001 River Conservationist of the Year Award. In a break from tradition, five individuals and or companies are receiving the award due to their outstanding work in preserving free-flowing fivers. The winners are: American Canoe Association, Springfield, Va.; Friends of the Reedy River, Greenville, S.C.; James River Partnership, Springfield, Mo.; Rebecca Kress, Ukiah, Calif.; and Tom Goynes, Martindale, Texas. Perception has been presenting the River Conservationist of the Year Award to leaders in the river conservation community since 1981. The Perception chooses the recipients based on the scope of the nominee’s river conservation work. This year, the company is making an undisclosed financial contribution to each of the organizations and or individuals to further their work.
