As of February 2002, the rights to the venerable Aladdin and Stanley brands and their retail sales will be turned over to Pacific Market International (PMI) of Seattle, Wash. The Stanley Classic bottle is the No. 1-selling insulated vacuum bottle on the U.S. market. Stanley also makes insulated mugs and coolers. Stanley parent, Aladdin, is well known for their insulated food and beverage storage products. PMI has been supplying insulated food and beverage products since 1983, many under under its MiGo brand, to consumers and to large private label customers including Starbucks and Nike. According to PMI’s Dave Clemons, the deal to acquire the Stanley and Aladdin brands was two years in the making. Over the last two or three months, rumors started circulating within PMI of the Stanley/Aladdin deal. The asset-based deal includes PMI’s purchase of unspecific levels of inventory and equipment. No manufacturing facilities are involved. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed. PMI’s Dave Clemons told SNEWS, “Over the first six months with the new brands, we will be in a maintenance mode with both. After that, we’ll start to look into new product line additions.” Clemons will head up a team selling Stanley products. The rest of the PMI sales effort will be divided into teams covering Starbucks, Nike and the housewares (Aladdin products) market.
