If you are a retailer, an outfitter, or even a non-profit offering outdoor adventure or education programs, you should take note of the following survey — “Rocky Terrain: A Look at the Risks in the Outdoor Adventure Industry.” The survey, conducted in partnership with The St. Paul Companies (NYSE: SPC), a St. Paul, Minn.-based insurance company, and Outward Bound USA, found that while most programs are very concerned with risk management and the safety of their guides/instructors and clients, a majority also get failing marks in terms of execution of an adequate risk management/assessment program. Take for example transportation and driving issues. While this category was listed as the No. 1 one safety concern for programs, only 48 percent of the respondents actually utilized a driver training and testing program.
