SNEWS® has learned that C. Joel Campbell, a career employee at DuPont, passed away suddenly on April 17 at the age of 64. Campbell was very well loved by many outdoor industry veterans — so much so he was known to more than a few as Captain Cordura — a moniker his teammates at the company bestowed on him. Campbell retired from DuPont as a marketing manager after 36 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda M. Quigley Campbell; their son, Kevin Campbell, and his wife, Susan, of Wilmington; two brothers, Marvin Campbell, of Amelia Island, Fla., and Ted Campbell, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Clay and Nicole. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Rd., Ste. 1, Newark, DE 19711; or to the National Kidney Foundation, Delaware Valley Chapter, 400 Market St., Ste. 1025, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Skip Yowell, vice president of global public relations for JanSport, said this of Campbell: “Joel was truly a genuine outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, and tied that into his branding of Cordura. Joel had textile smarts, street smarts, and was truly a fun person to do business with. Many of us old timers appreciate his great effort, non-profit giving, and friendship; a true textile person.”
