A SNEWS® Correction: Suffering from post-show mental overload, we lumped Black Diamond into our needling of manufacturers that can’t seem to get their act together and show ice tools, screws, etc. at the Winter Show. As Peter Metcalf gently reminded us, and as one SNEWS® editor saw personally, Black Diamond showed all of the company’s new tools, screws, etc at SIA in 2002 for the very reasons our man on the climbing/mountaineering scene during Summer Market, Clyde Soles, reported — because that is when ice tools and the like should be debuted. Yes, BD showed ice gear at Summer Market, but it was, with the exception of a $12 accessory bolt, all the same gear already previewed. Metcalf also told us that Black Diamond is committed to debuting the next season’s lineup of ice tools and gear at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in January 2003.
