Team D, Dagger Kayaks’ paddling team, kicked off its competitive season with all around wins at the Trinity Rodeo, in Shasta-Trinity National Park, Calif., last weekend and at the Immersion Research Triple (IR) Crown on the Nolichucky River, Tenn., on March 29 to April 6. In addition, Team D earned five spots on the U.S. Freestyle Team. Team D will compete in over 20 competitions in the U.S. and internationally for the 2002 season. The next competition scheduled was the Kern River Festival in Kernville, Calif., last weekend — no word on how Team D did there. SNEWS® View: All this is great, and there is no doubt these paddlers are superb and gifted athletes, but what is Team D doing for da bottom line? Or, say, something really important like growing the sport? Just wondering. How about we get a press release some time about the excitement of an elementary school class when a team member gave a demo, or a class one of them perhaps gave to a group of handicapped athletes? Now THAT would be news.
