Did you hear?… USSSA establishes minimum snowshoe size requirements for races

In preparation to host its 3rd Annual National Snowshoe Championships and continue last season’s inaugural series of nationwide Regional Qualifiers, the United States Snowshoe Association (USSSA) has established minimum snowshoe size requirements for races.Following months of collecting information from regional USSSA representatives around the country — and with results obtained from a “Surface Area Study” of a number of the most popular racing snowshoe models — the USSSA announces a new minimum snowshoe size standard for its events. The former standard required snowshoes are at least 8-by-25 inches to be legal for USSSA competition. The new rule requires that snowshoes used in USSSA competition offer at least 120 square inches of functional surface area. According to the USSSA, “This new ruling will better allow athletes to use snowshoes that will suit their stride, weight, snow conditions, and running style.” Many snowshoe manufacturers are including this new measurement on their snowshoes and labels for the coming season.
