Donate your old gear at Winter Market and help someone in need

If your gear closets are anything like ours, they desperately need cleaning out! SNEWS would like to encourage you to take a few moments before Outdoor Retailer Winter Market to pack up a duffel or box full of gear -- extra pairs of shoes, fleeces, sleeping bags, jackets, packs or any other gear items you don't need or want anymore -- and then drop off your stuff at Room 260 on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 between 9 a.m and 6 p.m.

If your gear closets are anything like ours, they desperately need cleaning out! SNEWS would like to encourage you to take a few moments before Outdoor Retailer Winter Market to pack up a duffel or box full of gear — extra pairs of shoes, fleeces, sleeping bags, jackets, packs or any other gear items you don’t need or want anymore — and then drop off your stuff at Room 260 on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 between 9 a.m and 6 p.m. The Timberland Co., W.L. Gore and Associates, Outdoor Retailer and Federal Express will then ensure they get on the backs, feet or hands of those that need it most in the Salt Lake City area.

What’s in it for me you ask? Oh puleeze! Besides a cleaner gear closet and a very clean conscience, you get to hit the Gear Up and Give party — Feb. 1 between 5 and 7 p.m. — and receive preferred treatment at the celebration, including Federal Express “priority” beverage service! Now, the SNEWS team isn’t quite sure what “priority” beverage service means by Federal Express standards, but we assume it indicates you’ll get loads of libations quickly, safely and when you want them — or it could mean you sit back and someone slings drinks wildly around the room. Either way, it’s sure to be great entertainment.

Companies and individuals can Gear Up and Give by donating overstocks or show samples of new or used gear in good condition in any of three ways:
1. Drop off gear personally at room 260 on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
2. Drop off gear personally at the Timberland booth 1337 on Feb. 2 and 3.
3. Ship your gear directly to the show from Jan. 29 to 31 to:

This program is following on the success of Project Playground at Summer Market 2002, where the industry pitched in to build 12 playgrounds that were donated to area organizations that serve children. Gear will be donated to the following organizations in the Salt Lake City area: Utah Federation for Youth, Wonderful World Outdoors (WOW), Boys and Girls Clubs, The Road Home Family Shelter, and the Christmas Box House.
