Brunswick to shutter plant, cut jobs

To become more competitive and provide better products in its core boat business, Brunswick Corp. (NYSE: BC), parent of Life Fitness, said it will close its Little Falls, Minn., aluminum boat plant and cut some jobs as it continues to rework its manufacturing strategy.

Brunswick traditionally had plants dedicated to producing particular brands, but is now having its facilities concentrate more on models and segments. The company said production of its Crestliner and Triton aluminum boats, which were made in Little Falls, will shift to plants in New York Mills, Minn.; Lebanon, Mo.; and Fort Wayne, Ind., over the next several months.

Brunswick said as much as 50 percent of Little Falls’ jobs could be transferred to the New York Mills or Lebanon facilities.

The company did not specify how many jobs would be affected by the closure, nor elaborate how it would affect the company’s overall bottom line.
