Here are a few notes about industry people and businesses “moving and shaking” in the last few weeks:
John Conti has rejoined Bodyguard after spending the last six months consulting with Prospot Fitness. Prior to Prospot, Conti had spent a year at Bodyguard after leaving True Fitness in early 2006. He has now returned to the Canada-based Bodyguard as the national sales manager for the United States. He can be reached at john.conti@bodyguardfitness.com…. Kalinda Mathis, director of marketing for the SGMA for the last several years, has left the association as of Nov. 2. She told SNEWS® she will remain in the industry but could not give details about where she will be as of January 2008….
Pekka Paalanne was appointed executive vice president of Amer Sports Corp., owner of Precor, as of October 2007. Paalanne will continue to be responsible for finance and treasury, communications and brand management, legal affairs, investor relations, competitor analysis and human resources. He has been with Amer since 1997…. Paul Gillstrom has parted ways with True Fitness as of the day before the Club Industry show in mid-October. He had been hired as the vice president of marketing but stepped up to COO in March 2006 when Michael Rivard left. Sources have told SNEWS® that True owner Frank Trulaske will be taking over the reins, at least for now. The company did not return calls for comment….
Yet another small delay for Forzani‘s new fitness specialty concept to debut at its Fitness Source chain: Only one new fitness store will open in November in Montreal, while four others in the area, also originally planned to open this month, are now set for a spring launch. A company spokesman told SNEWS® the delay had to do with construction and build-outs.
