Newly founded Torque Fitness has hired Pete Borchert as its president and Lance Shore as its vice president of sales, both former Life Fitness managers. Founder and former acting president Jerry Dettinger will step into the role of chairman of the board. The company continues to move toward an unveiling of product this summer. …President George W. Bush has appointed Jerry V. Noyce, CEO and president of Health Fitness Corp., as a member of the President’s Council of Sports and Fitness. His appointment was effective May 6, along with 19 other presidential appointees to the council…. Yoga Journal (www.YogaJournal.com) has won its fourth consecutive Maggie Award for “Best Health and Fitness” Magazine. The awards, given by the Western Publications Association, reflect excellence in magazine and electronic publishing in the Western United States. Finalists in the category included Shape and Natural Health…. IHRSA has announced its 2006 Get Active America! program where health clubs open their doors for free workouts at certain times and offer community programs to promote physical activity.
