ForSociety.com is a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based, website that provides a means for consumers to show their support for social responsibility by donating a portion of every purchase to charity — all while not charging the consumer a penny extra for the service.

ForSociety.com is affiliated with more than 300 merchants, including outdoor notables REI.com (one of the site’s top 25 most visited retailers), Bass Pro, Patagonia, BackcountryStore.com and Altrec.com. All are linked from the ForSociety.com website.
Additionally, the site is affiliated with numerous charitable organizations including The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, National Audubon Society, and the World Wildlife Fund.

Donations range from 5 percent to 30 percent of the price of each item and is paid by the participating merchants, not the consumers, according to ForSociety.

The site was launched in August 2001, but it is just now beginning to market itself to consumers and engage in cooperative marketing with non-profits by advertising in literature that non-profits send to their members.

According to a recent Business Journal article on ForSociety, what sets the group apart from others is that it is setting itself up as a 501c(3) corporation so the site’s operating costs will be supported by donations and sponsorships. That way, 100 percent of all contributions that come from online purchases go directly to the non-profits.
