The SNEWS® green hats are being tossed in the air in honor of Prana making the top 10 list of retail power partners recently published by the EPA. According to the EPA, a company’s participation in the EPA’s Green Power Partnership is proof that the company is an environmental leader in its community and working proactively to reduce energy-related impacts triggering climate change.
According to the EPA, its Top 10 Retail Partners list (see chart below) represents Green Power Partners that have the largest completed
annual green power purchases of all Partners within the retail sector.
According to the press release from the EPA, ” Their
purchases are helping to drive the development of new renewable energy sources.
Combined, these leaders’ purchases amount to almost 878,000 megawatt-hours
(MWh) annually, which is equivalent to the power required by more than 82,000
homes every year.”
What makes Prana’s efforts so noticeable is that immediately
above them on the list at position number seven is Liz Claiborne. Claiborne is
Prana’s parent, having acquired Prana in November 2005. And it was as a result
of the acquisition that Claiborne only started purchasing green power. Combine
the two, and Prana/Claiborne would occupy the number four position on the chart
– impressive indeed.
This list is current as of February 7, 2006 and will be updated quarterly by the EPA. The next update, scheduled for April 2006, will reflect information received from Partners by March 20, 2006.
