Busy Body/Gyms To Go has acquired the company that was the exclusive Precor commercial dealer for South Florida and is now the exclusive dealer of the Precor brand in the region for both retail and commercial.
“Acquiring this business was our next step in our growth plans,” Gyms To Go President Carlos Vazquez told SNEWS®, speaking for himself and co-owner Jonathan Larkin.
“The synergies of the two together will make for a better business for Precor and for us,” he added.
Gyms To Go (www.gymstogo.com), with 15 stores in Florida and Georgia, has had a strong commercial sales division. However, despite being the area retail Precor dealer, it could not sell Precor commercially in South Florida because of the exclusive held by Commercial Exercise of South Florida. The answer, Vazquez said, was to buy it.
Commercial Exercise, founded in late 2000 by Garth Brinkley, covered the area from Key West to Sebastian, Fla. Brinkley is now the commercial division manager for Vazquez and Larkin’s company. He will manage his two sales reps, and the company will add a third rep for the northern area. The difference, Vazquez said, is that they will now only focus on sales, not administrative and operational duties.
The acquisition should increase Gyms To Go gross sales by more than 15 percent, Vazquez said. Current retail sales are about $17 million a year, he said, with the expectation to reach over $20 million with the acquisition.
“We think this is going to be fantastic,” he said. “It’s going to be a good business opportunity.”
The Florida-based chain’s retail stores will have space devoted to commercial fitness setups so commercial customers can visit anytime to try equipment.
In other Busy Body/Gyms To Go news, the company is taking over nearly 3-year-old Affordable Fitness, begun by Bart Cappabianca with one store in Oviedo, Fla., near Orlando. The store location will move to Orlando, be renamed Busy Body, should be open by mid-August, and the area will be managed by Cappabianca. The addition will be the company’s 16th storefront.
