SNEW Qs: Lauran Dodge, Honey Stinger

Steamboat Springs, Colo.-based company Honey Stinger is venturing into the fitness market, most recently showing its wares at IHRSA in Las Vegas last month. SNEWS caught up with Honey Stinger’s key account representative Lauran Dodge who has worked with Honey Stinger since 2010.

Honey Stinger is a well-known, tasty snack among outdoor enthusiasts from hikers to climbers to marathoners. The tasty waffles, bars and energy chews (and now honey) from the company are for everything from a laid-back breakfast with a cup of coffee to sustenance for a daylong run in the mountains.

But now the Steamboat Springs, Colo.-based company is venturing into the fitness market, most recently showing its wares at IHRSA in Las Vegas last month. SNEWS caught up with Honey Stinger’s key account representative Lauran Dodge who has worked with Honey Stinger since 2010.

She’s used Stinger produts to fuel her through her hobbies, which includes snowboarding and mountain biking.

“Living in a fantastic mountain town provides me with year round great options,” for activity, Dodge said.

Tell our fitness readers about the history of Honey Stinger?
Located in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Honey Stinger was founded in 2002 to bring great tasting, convenient, honey-based foods to consumers. An athletic entrepreneur, a honey industry veteran, a food product developer and a beekeeper make up the team that founded Honey Stinger searching for nutrition during activity that worked and tasted great.

Why did the company decide to attend IHRSA this year?
We’ve been working on educating consumers and gaining more traction in the health and fitness industry for the past couple years. We wanted to return since we received such great feedback after our first year in attendance.

How did the show go?
The show was a complete success for us! We walked away with numerous leads and opportunities to build the brand in health clubs across the U.S.

What were some of the highlights of the show?
We met and mingled with such a diverse group of international fitness experts. From health club owners, to everyday heavyweight lifters and Zumba and spin instructors…they ALL loved being fueled throughout the show by Honey Stinger.

What are some new products you spotted at IHRSA that you thought were interesting?

Antigravity Aerial Yoga and BeyondBarre.

What should specialty fitness retailers and facility operators know about Honey Stinger?
They work and taste great.

Who is the target end-user?
We fuel some of the country’s top cyclists, runners, triathletes and teams. More and more people have begun enjoying Honey Stinger as nutritious snacks, meal replacements and healthy options for on the go!

What new things do you guys have coming out that you’re particularly excited about?
We just launched our Cherry Cola Energy Chews with 32mgs of natural caffeine from white tea extract – they taste AMAZING!

What are your favorite Honey Stinger products?
Favorite Honey Stinger Product for pre/during exercise – Pink Lemonade Energy Chews; and post exercise – 10g Coconut Almond Pro bar.
