What is your most popular item right now?
It’s springtime on the Front Range, so people are excited about ropes, quickdraws and cams.
What do you think will be some of the bigger trends this season?
I think there are a lot of new models of cams and active protection that are trying to find their niche. As the summer ends and we get more toward the fall season, we’ll see a lot of people exploring those new cams, especially things like the Dragon Cams, the Helium Friends, the ultra lightweight cams, as people want to venture into the alpine environment.
Also, there are a lot of new shoes coming out. There are sick new rock shoes. The Futura is going to crush it, there’s no doubt there, the La Sportiva No-Edge Technology. If it’s anything like when the [La Sportiva] Solution came out, it’s going to be pretty popular. Some of the new Sportiva hikers are pretty awesome, too.
Of some of the new technology coming out what are your favorites and why?
I haven’t gotten to play with it so much yet, but the new Gore-Tex, especially their lightweight breathable active layers that they’re putting in the jackets you’re wearing during the summer when you still want that rain protection. That’s some technology I’d really like to use because I’m always looking to lighten my layers in the summertime — but still get the same protection.
What’s your favorite part about working in this industry?
Pretty much I can do what I love. Right now, I’m editing rock photos from a climbing trip yesterday that some co-workers and I took. Just helping people get outside and get psyched and inspired helps keep me psyched and inspired.
