Timbuk2 CEO Mike Wallenfels resigns; Chairman Ken Pucker to lead in interim

After nearly five years, Mike Wallenfels has resigned as CEO of Timbuk2, company officials announced on Thursday.
Wallenfels, the former Mountain Hardwear CEO who joined San Francisco-based Timbuk2 in 2009, will remain through the end of March to help advise the company’s board of directors and senior management team.
Timbuk2 Board Chairman Ken Pucker was named interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Pucker “has been an investor and board member at Timbuk2 for more than seven years and will continue to drive an aggressive growth path for the brand and business,” officials said in a release.
Wallenfels “plans to pursue personal adventures and work as an independent consultant for outdoor-related companies,” officials said, declining to make the former CEO available for further comment.
In a prepared statement, Wallenfells said “Timbuk2 has come a long way over the past four and one half years. I am proud of the revitalized product line, expanded marketing efforts, strengthened retailer partnerships, international expansion, and the growing retail brick-and-mortar presence for the brand. I truly loved working here and will especially miss all of the smart people and the fun atmosphere that make up Timbuk2 as a brand and culture.”
The Timbuk2 business turns 25-years-old this year. Founded by bike messenger Rob Honeycutt, it has evolved from making cycling-inspired messenger bags to categories including backpacks, camera bags, totes, and travel bags.
