Who’s on the move: Mike O’Connor promoted at Pearl Izumi; Scott Duer joins Katadyn; plus new sales agencies for Marker, Big Agnes and Mountain Khakis; and more …

  • Pearl Izumi, in Louisville, Colo., promoted Mike O’Connor, to divisional president, replacing Juergen Eckmann, who will depart April 1, 2013, after 11 years with the company. O’Connor moves up from his previous position as vice president of consumer service, retail and distribution. He has been with the company for nine years.
  • Black Diamond Inc., the parent company of Black Diamond Equipment, Gregory Mountain Sports, Poc Sports and Pieps, announced four newly created positions to bolster its operational and sales teams, both domestically and internationally. The company appointed Olav Nietzer as director of European sales for Black Diamond Equipment. He previously served as a European sales director for Burton, Red, and Anon, plus held various positions at Johnson & Johnson, UBS and Credit Suisse. He will be based out of Black Diamond’s Basel, Switzerland offices. Martijn Linden joins Black Diamond Equipment in Salt Lake City as the design director of apparel. Linden’s prior experience includes senior European design positions at O’Neill and Rip Curl, as well as various creative roles with Quiksilver and Patagonia in North America. Andrew Campbell was named European financial controller for Black Diamond. He previously served as finance and human resource director for Pure Fishing as well as various positions at Patagonia Europe and Price Waterhouse Coopers Australia. Colin Israel was hired as Black Diamond’s product lifecycle management (PLM) global integration coordinator. Israel’s previous work experience includes senior director of information technology for Volcom North America and senior manager for Deloitte & Touche’s North American controls assurance.
  • Katadyn North America, in Minneapolis, Minn., hired Scott Duer as national sales manager to help the brand manage its growing business including Katadyn, Optimus and its newly acquired dehydrated food brands: AlpineAire, Natural High and Richmoor. Duer joins Katadyn North America with a 20-year resume in the outdoor industry, including positions as global sales manager at G3, sales manager at Rotefella, merchandise manager with Backcountry.com, and director of sales at Voile.
  • 2XU North America, in Carlsbad, Calif., appointed Fred Hernandez as director of marketing. Among his numerous tasks, Hernandez will develop and facilitate strategic partnerships and alliances across multiple channels increasing brand exposure for 2XU throughout the sports industry and beyond. Hernandez previously worked for Modern Postcard, Hunter Industries, and Berryman & Henigar.
  • PrimaLoft, in Albany, N.Y., appointed Sue Rechner to its board of directors. Rechner is the president and CEO of Confluence Watersports and also serves on the board of the Outdoor Industry Association, Outdoor Foundation, and Montana Silversmiths.
  • Boardworks Surf, in Encinitas, Calif., announced that Bob Rief is retiring as its chief operating officer. He will remain as a consultant to the business and a brand ambassador. Boardworks owner Mike Fox will take over the company’s COO responsibilities.
  • Marker Ltd., in Park City, Utah, formed three new sales agencies in the United States. Janie Fausold & Associates will cover the western states, Nelson and Associates will cover the Midwestern states and Corky Brown, KCB Associates will cover the Eastern states. Each agency is comprised of an agency manager and a team of independent sales representatives. Retailers will benefit from a more focused and increased pool of resources and staff as well as greater centralized points of service.
  • Mountain Khakis, in Jackson Hole Wyo., named Geary Guay Recreational Resources as its independent rep agency for the Rocky Mountain territory in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico. GGRR’s team, based in Boulder, Colo. includes Geary Guay, Blair Simpson, Molly LaBonte, Loren Gwartney-Gibbs and Jon VanNoy.
  • Big Agnes, in Steamboat, Colo., added of Mystery Mountain Enterprises Inc., headed by Michael Down, to its sales team. Mystery Mountain will manage sales of Big Agnes products and Helinox trekking poles and camp furniture in Western Canada, covering British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Mystery Mountain also represents Scarpa, Wigwam, Korkers, Innate and Nikwax in the region.
  • Klean Kanteen, in Chico, Calif., added Scalata Concept in France and Elements Bvba in Benelux for as distributors in Europe and CRMA as a distributor in Thailand to strengthen the brand presence in Asia.
  • OutsidePR & Sports Marketing, in Sausalito, Calif. welcomed Rebecca Robinson as a new account executive. Robinson joins the team after serving as communications specialist at Ridejoy, PR and social media consultant at Sea Studios and a producer for Oregon Public Broadcasting.
  • D-fa Dogs, in Wanaka, New Zealand, retained The Walton Works, headed by Todd Walton, as it public relations connector in the United States.
