Icelantic LLC, in Denver, appointed Annelise Loevlie as its new CEO. Loevlie, a long time friend and co-worker Icelantic Founder and former CEO Ben Anderson, has been with the company since 2005, holding virtually every position in the alpine ski brand from CFO to marketing manager to head of international business. She serves on the board of directors for SIA and was on the council that recently re-branded the State of Colorado. Anderson will move into the role of chief brand officer, focusing his efforts more towards Icelantic’s image, experience and product development.
Black Diamond Inc., in Salt Lake City, made it official in promoting Aaron Kuehne as its chief financial officer, after he held the position on interim basis for the past seven months. He will head the financial responsibilities for the publicly traded company, which is parent to Black Diamond, Gregory, Poc Sports and Pieps. Kuehne has been the with company for three years, first as director of financial reporting, then as vice president of finance before moving into the CFO role. Prior to joining Black Diamond, Kuehne served in various capacities with KPMG, most recently as an audit manager.
First Descents, in Denver, Colo., named Ryan O’Donoghue as the nonprofit’s new executive director. Previously, O’Donoghue worked in development at the Livestrong Foundation, managing individual major gifts, foundation grants and a range of business development opportunities. He remains a member of the Foundation’s Young Leaders Cancer Council. Former executive director Brad Ludden will maintain his role as founder of the organization and continue to engage in the day-to-day operations, growth and development of the nonprofit. First Descents currently serves approximately 550 participants every season through kayaking, surfing and rock climbing programs in 16 states and three countries. The organization provides a wide variety of programming for cancer survivors and also works with caregivers and cancer centers nationwide.
Backbone Media, in Carbondale, Colo., grew its media relations team with two new hires. Holly Potter was hired to serve in the newly created role of marketing and business manager. Potter will provide counsel on brand marketing and client development strategy in the active lifestyle space. Potter previously worked at media agency group Carat. Amanda Boyle joined the Backbone full-time as a social media account manager. She will work to assist key clients in expanding their social share of voice and develop Backbone’s overall social media management strategy. Boyle previously served as the snow sports marketing lead for Google.
Hillsounds, in Vancouver, Canada, appointed Rick Thompson as its sales rep in the Midwest region, serving retailers in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. Thompson currently also works with Dock Rite, Seger of Sweden, Gloves International and Pau Hana Surf Supply. Hillsound has also partnered with Kenkosya Pty Ltd. in Japan, who currently distributes Sherpa, Injinji, Big Agnes, Terra Nova and Vargo. In Hawaii, Hillsound tapped Justin Cruz to distribute the brand.
Salomon USA, in Ogden Utah, named Chris McKearin as its new alpine commercial manager. He will work alongside sales, product, brand and operations managers around the world to provide consumer insight and strategic guidance for the Salomon alpine equipment group in the United States. McKearin has worked with Salomon’s parent company, Amer Sports, since 2007, most recently serving as the Atomic Freeski Sports marketing manager in Altenmarkt, Austria. He will begin his new role at Salomon USA headquarters in late November.
