Marmot Precip Jacket

SNEWS had to ask John Cooley of Marmot the price, and then had to call headquarters for confirmation of what we heard — because the price is unbelievable: $99 retail. We have yet to find a waterproof/breathable jacket this light (11 ounces) that offers this kind of performance at this price anywhere!
Though you can’t really see it, you’ll have to trust that the PU coating has a collagen silk protein lining that works to keep the jacket’s insides from feeling clammy, even while your comrade’s jackets are becoming as fun to wear as plastic wrap in a Finnish sauna. The fit is lean and sleek and geared to performance, which means if you are seeking a full-coverage parka, you’ll want to look elsewhere. The material feels soft and doesn’t announce your arrival from down the hall, either. Generous underarm zippers provide added venting when needed.
Nifty additions include an inside zipper pocket that converts to a stuff sack and the chin guard which is lined with cushy DriClime. If we have one quibble, the hood doesn’t roll down, so it’s either on or flopping around in the breeze.
SNEWS Rating: 4 hands clapping (1 to 5 hands clapping possible, with 5 clapping hands representing functional and design perfection.)
