Marty Hanaka finds redemption at The Sports Authority, says Forbes

How’s this for a magazine story lead? “Martin Hanaka and Sports Authority were both damaged goods when the retailing executive landed the top slot at the sporting goods chain in September 1998.” That, according to a profile of Hanaka in the Dec. 23 edition of Forbes magazine. Ouch, to say the least, since it points out that TSA was “perilously close to bankruptcy,” while it reports Hanaka’s arrest for assaulting a 23-year-old underling at Staples, where he was president and CEO. For the record, those charges were tossed out by a judge. Still, both Hanaka and TSA carried black marks. Today, Forbes says, the story is different. For both.
