The outdoor industry is flush with passion and dedication, and for the seventh year, the Outdoor Inspiration Awards will honor the best examples at the winter Outdoor Retail Show this January.
Nominations are now being accepted for the upcoming ceremony, set for January 11, 2017 during the Winter Market.
The awards highlight individuals, non-profits, retailers, youth and manufacturers giving back to the industry and their communities, as well as those pushing other people to get outside.
“Encouraging outdoor participation is a responsibility that rests with every facet of our community,” said Greg Thomsen, managing director of adidas Outdoor USA, which, along with JanSport, is a presenting sponsor of the event.
Last year’s winners included Andy Janicki, whose non-profit provides free kayaks to people with disabilities, Big City Mountaineers, which introduces at-risk kids to outdoor adventure, and retailer Alpenglow Sports, which runs a number of local community-based events.
“The Outdoor Inspiration Awards is a unique and special event where we shine the light on those who inspire and encourage others to enjoy outdoor adventures,” said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer vice president and show director.
Reprising their roles from last year’s awards ceremony, Alex Boylan and Burton Roberts—both from the media company, DreamJobbing—will be returning as hosts this year. Boylan won the second season of the CBS reality show, The Amazing Race. Roberts is a veteran contestant of both Eco-Challenge Fiji and Survivor.
