Outdoor apparel company Merrell will sponsor dozens of Tough Mudder events next year, and has designed new running shoes inspired by the obstacle course.

Merrell announced Thursday morning that it has partnered with Tough Mudder to sponsor more than 60 events in six countries in 2016.
Tough Mudder also unveiled the new Tough Mudder Half, also presented by Merrell, which involves a 5-mile course with more than a dozen obstacles.
The partnership is a natural one for Merrell, company president Jim Gabel said in a press release issued Thursday morning.
“At Merrell, we believe that hard elements shouldn’t harden your spirit, that they should be enjoyed, not defeated,” Gabel said. “Tough Mudder shares our vision of wit and grit, and together we are committed to inspiring others to overcome obstacles by eliminating barriers to enjoying the outdoors.”
The apparel company has designed new running shoes inspired by Tough Mudder. The All Out Terra Trail Waterproof is available now, and features underfoot protection for rocky, root-covered trails. The All Out Crush launches in February and features 360-degree traction, flex grooves for running in mud and easy-clean TPU mesh coating. Both pairs retail for $119.
